Community Guidelines & Acceptable Use
Binder Community Limited · No. 17058768
Welcome to Binder
Binder is a community built for LGBTQ+ people — a space to connect, share, and be yourself. We exist to serve this community and to keep it safe.
These Community Guidelines set out the standards we expect from everyone on Binder. They exist to protect you, your fellow community members, and the space we’re building together. By using Binder, you agree to these guidelines. If you break them, we may take action — from removing content to permanent account suspension.
These guidelines exist alongside our
Terms of Service, which are the legally binding agreement between you and Binder. In the event of any conflict between these guidelines and the Terms of Service, the Terms of Service prevail.
1. Absolute rules — zero tolerance
The following are never permitted on Binder under any circumstances. These are not matters of discretion or context. Violations will result in immediate permanent account suspension and, where required by law, referral to law enforcement authorities.
• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — any depiction of sexual abuse of a person under 18. Binder is legally required to report CSAM to CEOP and NCMEC.
• Terrorism and violent extremism — content promoting, glorifying, or facilitating acts of terrorism or mass violence.
• Content that endangers a child — any attempt to contact, groom, or exploit minors.
• Non-consensual intimate images — sharing intimate images or videos of a real person without their consent.
• Content inciting violence against an individual or group based on a protected characteristic.
• Doxxing — publishing a person’s private real-world information (address, workplace, identity) without consent.
2. Respect and inclusion
Treat everyone with respect. We encourage you to:
• Express your views and identity freely.
• Disagree with others respectfully.
• Use people’s stated names and pronouns.
• Celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community.
The following is not allowed:
• Harassing, bullying, or targeting individual users.
• Using slurs or dehumanising language about any person.
• Deliberately misgendering or deadnaming someone.
• Coordinating campaigns of harassment against a person.
No hate speech. You are welcome to discuss LGBTQ+ issues, identity, and politics, share lived experiences including discrimination, and critique ideologies and belief systems in good faith. You must not:
• Post content that dehumanises people based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, disability, or other protected characteristic.
• Use hate speech or slurs targeting any group.
• Post content designed to incite hostility toward any group.
3. Safety
Mental health and self-harm. We encourage you to share your experiences of mental health in your own words, seek and offer peer support, and share crisis helpline information and wellbeing resources. You must not:
• Post content that promotes, glorifies, or provides detailed instruction on self-harm or suicide.
• Share graphic depictions of self-harm.
• Encourage or pressure others toward self-destructive behaviour.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, please reach out:
• Samaritans: 116 123 (24/7, free).
• Shout (text): Text HELLO to 85258.
• Switchboard LGBT+: 0800 0119 100 (11am–11pm daily).
• Galop (LGBT+ anti-violence): 0800 999 5428.

Outing is never acceptable. Share your own LGBTQ+ identity in your own words and on your own terms, and support others to share at their own pace. You must not:
• Disclose another person’s sexual orientation or gender identity without their explicit consent.
• Threaten to out someone.
• Share information that could reveal someone’s identity to people who do not already know.
4. Authentic identity
Be yourself. We encourage you to:
• Use your real identity or a chosen name that represents you.
• Maintain one account per person.
• Tell us if you believe another account is impersonating you.
You must not:
• Create fake accounts to impersonate another person.
• Create multiple accounts to evade a ban.
• Misrepresent yourself as a Binder staff member or moderator.
• Use Binder for commercial activity without our permission.
5. Content standards
Images and media. You are welcome to share images and videos of yourself and your life, as well as artwork, creative content, and community events. You must not:
• Post graphic violence or gore.
• Post content that is sexual in nature unless in a designated space (where applicable and age-verified).
• Post content that sexualises minors in any way.
• Post images of others without their knowledge and consent.
Commercial and spam. You may recommend services and events you genuinely love to the community, and share information about LGBTQ+ events, spaces, and resources. You must not:
• Send unsolicited commercial messages or spam.
• Use Binder to promote illegal goods or services.
• Scrape or harvest user data from the platform.
• Use automated bots or scripts to interact with the platform.
6. Enforcement
Binder takes a proportionate approach to enforcement. Not all violations are treated equally — we consider context, severity, history, and harm potential. Our moderation team will review reported content and accounts. Depending on the violation, actions range from content removal, education notifications and warnings, through short or temporary suspensions, to permanent suspension and, where required by law, referral to law enforcement authorities. Zero tolerance violations result in an immediate permanent ban and are not subject to appeal.
Reporting content. You can report any content or user that you believe violates these guidelines using the in-app reporting tool. We review all reports. We will not disclose the identity of the person who made a report without their consent.
Appeals. If you believe your content was removed or your account was suspended in error, you can appeal using the contact details in our Help Centre. We will review your appeal and respond as soon as reasonably possible.
7. Reporting, and changes to these Guidelines
If you see something that breaks these Guidelines, report it in the app. We may update these Guidelines from time to time and will publish the current version.
